- Production Period:
- Victoria I
- Object Name: Painting
- Description: Ninteenth century watercolour painting of Whitehall, Shrewsbury by A.E. Everett
- Description: Whitehall was built out of Abbey stone on the site of an Abbey grange. One barn, probably of pre-Reformation date, survives and the perimeter wall may well be the original wall of the grange. The owner Richard Prynce was a wealthy lawyer who did well out of the shifts of power, influence and land in the late 16th century, particularly following the Dissolution, when monastic land and property was released onto the market. In this context, Abbey Foregate was clearly a favoured suburb in which to invest.
