- Description: In September 1642 King Charles I (1600-1649) raised his standard in Wellington, Shropshire.
Next day he addressed his troops at nearby Orleton Hall and promised to uphold the Protestant Religion, the Laws of England and the Liberty of Parliament in what became known as the Wellington Declaration.
