The Medieval, Tudor and Stuart Galleries

IMG_4438Climate change, over-population, environmental stress and economic decline; these could be headlines today but they were also critical in shaping Shropshire in these periods.

Situated within the first floor of Vaughan’s Mansion, the Medieval and Tudor Galleries uncovers the facts about life, work and death in Medieval and Tudor Shropshire.

The following Stuart period saw 20 years of religious and political turmoil. During the English Civil War Shropshire was of great strategic importance and local people were forced to take sides, cleaving deep scars within families and communities.

Within Vaughan’s Mansion’s first floor Link the Stuart Gallery displays some of the artefects which chart this turbulent period and the people who found it made or broke their families’ fortunes.
