Drawn of the Dead

Our new exhibition, Drawn of the Dead, displays the comic art of the internationally famous Charlie Adlard.

The ‘zombie’ with its characteristic stumbling gate and flesh-eating persuasions is an image which has pervaded the public imagination like no other. Our new exhibition, AMC’s blockbusting TV show, The Walking Dead, now in it’s 9th season is a spin off from the revered comic-book series created by Robert Kirkman and Shropshire’s own, Charlie Adlard.

In Drawn of the Dead, Shrewsbury based Charlie’s dystopian vision is transported to the streets of his home town. A stunning selection of Charlie’s original works from the Walking Dead comic series are displayed alongside immersive, set piece installations. Take part in your own ‘zombie life drawing session’ and create a zombie sketch to take home.

This unique exhibition, created by sculptor Andrew Bryden and curated in-house by the SM&AG team, continues to the museum balcony where you’ll see the breadth of Charlie’s work beyond The Walking Dead. Images from cult French comic Vampire State Building are displayed alongside Charlie’s life drawings and original books, Code Flesh and White Death.

Drawn of the Dead opens on Saturday 1 June 2019 and runs until Sunday 3 November 2019.
